Introduction

Ultrasound of the elbow joint is among the basic methods in PMR, orthopedics, and sports medicine for targeted assessment of soft tissues in the elbow area. During examination, we primarily evaluate the area of the medial and lateral epicondyle, the common flexor and extensor attachments, collateral ligaments, distal tendon of m. biceps brachii, tendon of m. triceps brachii, and the course of n. ulnaris in the cubital tunnel. The examination is particularly beneficial for pain during gripping, wrist extension, elbow flexion, or paresthesias in the ulnar region. Ultrasound allows assessment of epicondylopathy, partial ruptures, synovitis, joint effusion, bursitis, and compressive neuropathy while simultaneously comparing findings with the contralateral elbow.
