Introduction
Hip joint ultrasound is one of the fundamental methods in PMR, orthopedics, and sports medicine for examining soft tissues in the hip region. It provides the greatest benefit particularly for groin and lateral hip pain, where it allows differentiation between intra-articular and peri-articular causes of symptoms. During examination, we primarily evaluate the anterior recess of the hip joint with possible effusion, the area of m. iliopsoas, m. rectus femoris, adductor and abductor apparatus including trochanteric bursae. Ultrasound allows assessment of synovitis, joint effusion, gluteal tendon tendinopathies, bursitis, and enthesopathies in the trochanteric region.
