Entrapment sites
Most Common Sites of Peripheral Nerve Compression
- Crutch palsy (berlová obrna) – compression of n. radialis in the axilla/proximal arm when using crutches incorrectly, especially when bearing weight on the armpit.
- Sulcus nervi radialis (spiral groove) - compression during humerus fractures or pressure.
- Lateral intermuscular septum - passage to the anterior compartment of the arm.
- Arcade of Frohse - fibrous arch of the supinator, the most common site of compression of the deep branch.
- Supinator tunnel (radial tunnel) - compression of the deep branch in the supinator.
- Fascia of m. brachioradialis and m. extensor carpi radialis longus - compression of superficial branch, Wartenberg syndrome.
- Crossing with v. cephalica - irritation/compression during cannulation or catheter placement.
