Entrapment sites

Most Common Sites of Peripheral Nerve Compression

  • Crutch palsy (berlová obrna) – compression of n. radialis in the axilla/proximal arm when using crutches incorrectly, especially when bearing weight on the armpit.
  • Sulcus nervi radialis (spiral groove) - compression during humerus fractures or pressure.
  • Lateral intermuscular septum - passage to the anterior compartment of the arm.
  • Arcade of Frohse - fibrous arch of the supinator, the most common site of compression of the deep branch.
  • Supinator tunnel (radial tunnel) - compression of the deep branch in the supinator.
  • Fascia of m. brachioradialis and m. extensor carpi radialis longus - compression of superficial branch, Wartenberg syndrome.
  • Crossing with v. cephalica - irritation/compression during cannulation or catheter placement.
