Introduction

Ultrasound of the ankle and foot is one of the fundamental methods in PMR, orthopedics, and sports medicine for examining ligamentous, tendinous, and periarticular structures. It provides the greatest benefit especially after ankle sprains and in chronic instability, where it enables dynamic examination of affected structures. During examination, we primarily evaluate the lateral ligament complex (ATFL, CFL), medial deltoid ligament, peroneal tendons, tibialis posterior tendon, and anterior recess of the ankle joint. Ultrasound allows assessment of partial ligament ruptures, tendinopathies, tendon subluxations, synovitis, and joint effusion, and helps clarify further treatment approach.
