Patient positioning

The diagram shows the recommended patient positioning for knee examination in both extension and flexion. The goal is optimal access to structures in individual windows, examination stability, and patient comfort.
Patient positioning: Knee

Position and their use

  • Anterior setup (extension): checks quadriceps tendon, patella, patellar tendon, and suprapatellar recess.
  • Anterior setup (knee flexed): improves visualization of recesses and patellar movement.
  • Medial/lateral setup: evaluates collateral ligaments, meniscal edges, and enthesopathy.
