Patient positioning

The chart shows recommended patient positioning for the basic shoulder examination. The goal is quick orientation before the protocol, optimal access to target structures, stable probe handling during scanning, and patient comfort throughout the exam.
Patient positioning: Shoulder
Figure 1. Patient positioning for shoulder ultrasound. 1. Baseline position for ventral view, 2. Position for subscapularis assessment - ventral view, 3. Crass position - rotator cuff assessment - lateral view, 4. Modified Crass position - rotator cuff assessment - lateral view, 5. Position for dorsal view.

Position and their use

  • Basic position for examining the ventral view.
  • Position for examining the m. subscapularis - ventral view.
  • Crass position - position for examining the rotator cuff - lateral view.
  • Modified Crass position - position for rotator cuff examination - lateral view.
  • Position for examining the dorsal view.
