Proper probe grip improves stability, enhances tissue contact, and reduces hand fatigue. Below are three practical grip types commonly used in MSK ultrasound.
- Princess grip – a poor grip choice because it is unstable and easily causes unintended probe movement. This results in reduced control and poorer reproducibility.
- Normal grip – a balanced standard grip. It provides good stability and sensitivity and is the most common choice for routine scanning.
- Powerful grip – also a poor grip choice because it limits fine control and encourages excessive pressure on tissues. This reduces sensitivity, worsens fine adjustments, and increases hand fatigue.
